Recycling, Upcycling, and Greenfielding at Coleman’s Canyon Preserve

When WVWA purchased the Coleman’s Canyon property in 2019, there was a lot of work needed to restore the land.  Perhaps the biggest project was greenfielding the derelict buildings–removing structures and impervious cover.

Finding opportunity in the challenge, David Baker, WVWA’s Executive Director, searched for a company that could strategically deconstruct the buildings to recycle, upcycle, and reuse as much material as possible.  Salvaging the Hill Country is CenTex Decon‘s motto!  We estimate repurposing 25-50% of the materials.  Much of the wood will be turned into furniture through their sister business–Rustic Custom Furniture.

The greenfielding project started in March 2021. By the end of May, 5 houses were deconstructed and over 7,500 square feet of impervious cover was removed. CenTex Decon estimates they have recycled over 350 pounds of nails alone!
