Groundwater: Planning for the Future

April 12, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm

2022 is the beginning of a new 5-year groundwater planning cycle.  What does it all mean, and when it is best for you to have effective engagement in the process?

Please join the Hays Trinity Groundwater Conservation District and Hill Country Alliance for an in-person and interactive presentation –Groundwater: Planning For the Future that explains the process and how community members can participate.

The Trinity Aquifer in the Hill Country is locally managed by nine county-based districts (see Groundwater Management Area <GMA-9> map).  The planning process is complex but important.  Please refer to this Q&A/FAQ for details, definitions, and Explanatory Reports.

State Law requires a 5-year planning process dedicated to the management of the State’s major aquifers.  In our part of the Hill Country, that planning process is a collaboration between the local groundwater districts, the Texas Water Development Board, and the public.  The planning outlook has a 50-year horizon, and the purpose is to establish and maintain a defined “Desired Future Condition (or DFC)” of the State’s aquifers (aquifer level in our case) over time.  The details are found in the 2021 Explanatory Report and help establish future uses and conditions for the State Water Plan.
